First Timer Orientation
What every beginner skier/snowboarder needs to know, but is afraid to ask!
1. Once I arrive at Ski Wentworth….where do I go?
The best place to park is in the main parking lot (the one with the big Welcome to Wentworth sign) If you are going to take a lesson, require rental equipment or need a lift ticket, proceed to the closest building – the Rental Shop. It gives you access to all facilities you will need to start your on-hill experience, as well as access to more beginner terrain. If you need to use washroom facilities or want to grab a bite to eat before you begin your day, make your way to the main lodge, which is the big building with the blue roof. There is an information centre at the end of the building. If you have any questions or need any assistance, they can help. There is also a big sign on the side of the Rental Shop that will help guide you to all Wentworth’s services.
2. What should I wear?
The most important thing to remember while dressing for a day on the slopes on Ski Wentworth is layering! This way, you can add or subtract items as necessary. Make sure your ‘outerwear’ is wind and water resistant. Jeans or jogging pants are not recommended. Staying dry is the key to staying warm. Helmets are mandatory in Nova Scotia. Goggles are helpful on days that are especially cold or windy. Ski accessories and clothing are available at Dave Wilson’s Ski Shop in the main lodge if you have forgotten an item.
3. What’s easier to learn, skiing or snowboarding?
This is a difficult question to answer and many people may share their opinion with you about this comparison. The most important thing to remember is that everyone has to start somewhere and we would recommend a lesson with one of our Snow School professionals to help you learn the basics of skiing and/or snowboarding to begin your experience at Ski Wentworth.
4. What equipment will I need?
If you are going to learn how to ski you will require skis, ski boots and poles. Snowboarders will require a snowboard and snowboard boots. If you don’t have your own already, stop by our Rental Shop, they will help you get started with the right equipment for your size and ability level. Helmets are mandatory in the province of Nova Scotia. They are available free of charge with a ski or snowboard package or you can rent one for the day.
5. Do I need to get snowboard or ski lessons?
We feel that all beginner skiers or snowboarders will benefit from a lesson. Not only to get you acquainted with your equipment, but to give you some tips that will help make your experience more enjoyable. Our Snow School has the certified instructors on site to ensure you get the support and encouragement you need. Lessons are made on a first come first serve basis. Look in the snow school section of this website to find out about lesson times.
6. Are there beginner ski and snowboard packages?
Ski Wentworth has attractively priced packages for both beginner skiers and snowboarders. The Learn to Ski & Snowboard package includes your beginner lift ticket, rental equipment and a lesson – all for one low price to make things easier for you. You can find information on these packages in the snow school section of this website.
Have a great day and welcome to Ski Wentworth!
